Tree Planting for a Greener Tomorrow

Wetu Trust Foundation, in collaboration with local primary schools, marked this year’s Scouts Day with a tree planting activity in Nakuru. The event was held at Lanet Primary School, where pupils, teachers, and community members joined hands to plant 100 tree seedlings within the school neighborhood. The initiative aimed to instill environmental stewardship in young learners while promoting community participation in sustainable practices. During the activity, participants discussed the importance of tree planting in supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy). Trees play a critical role in absorbing carbon emissions, conserving biodiversity, and providing natural alternatives for energy use such as firewood, which reduces dependence on non-renewable sources. Learners were encouraged to embrace simple, everyday actions that contribute to conserving the planet for future generations. The event not only celebrated Scouts Day but also highlighted the role of young people in safeguarding the environment. By planting trees and engaging in open discussions about climate change and energy conservation, Wetu Trust Foundation emphasized that every action, however small, contributes to a greener and more sustainable future. The seedlings planted at Lanet Primary symbolize a lasting commitment to nurturing both the environment and the minds of the young scouts who will lead tomorrow’s sustainable initiatives.
